The UAE has ranked amongst the top 10 countries in the world for the nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A new system created by the Institute of Certified Management Accountants in Australia has been established to measure a the effectiveness of a country’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.

The system has been labelled the ‘Global Response to Infectious Diseases’ (GRID) index, evaluated the efficiency of a country’s government, as well as how established a nation’s health system was in order to be able to handle the outbreak.

New Zealand ranked top of the list, followed by Singapore, Iceland, Australia, Finland, Norway, Canada, South Korea, Hong Kong and then the UAE rounding off the top 10.

The UAE has been extremely proactive in implementing many preventative measures in order to contain the spread of coronavirus including launching drive-through COVID-19 testing centres, establishing a Centre of Coronavirus Control and shutting down restaurants, bars and more for the time being.

Other proactive measures include the national sterilisation programme, which has proven to be extremely successful, and specifically has been taking place for 24 hours a day in Dubai, meaning all residents have been told to stay home.

Similarly, Dubai Police have been trialling new detection technology – smart helmets complete with infra-red cameras.

HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai recently praised the efforts of the public and the medical staff on the frontlines of the coronavirus battle in the UAE.

“We stand united with our frontline heroes for their eternally valued efforts,” His Highness said. “A huge thanks also goes out to all citizens and residents for their exemplary cooperation in implementing the precautionary measures taken in Dubai over the past few weeks.”
