Check out a just-opened restaurant
Named after a fictional character, Little Miss India is Fairmont The Palm’s newest gastronomic destination—one which aims to take you on a culinary journey. With a venue designed to look like its namesake’s eclectic home, and a menu full of comforting dishes such as slow-cooked tandoori lamb and spicy shrimp curry with chilli, it sounds like quite an experience to kick the weekend off with.
Little Miss India, Fairmont The Palm, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, open daily 5pm to 1am (dinner from 6.30pm to 11.30pm). Tel: (04) 457 3457. fairmont.com.
See the world’s most expensive shoes
They’re worth Dhs55 million (eek!) and they’re here in Dubai for a weekend. Covered in 1,000 diamonds and woven with 24-carat gold thread, the Debbie Wingham-designed sandals will be showcased at Raffles Dubai, where you can see them up close at the hotel’s Fashion Afternoon Tea on November 2 and 3. You can also eat plenty of pastries and sweet treats (as if we needed any more convincing)…
Raffles Dubai, Sheikh Rashid Road, Dubai, afternoon tea costs Dhs249 for two, served between 2pm and 7pm. Tel: (04) 324 8888. raffles.com/dubai.
Friday 3
Work out with an Instagram legend
She rose to fame with her Bikini Body Guide, and now you can take a class with Kayla Itsines right here in Dubai. The Aussie fitness personality is hosting a one-off session at the Golden Mile Galleria this weekend (as part of the mall’s fitness month, read more about it here), where she’ll give an in-the-flesh guide to her special 28-minute workouts.
Golden Mile Galleria 2, Golden Mile Building 8, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai, 5pm, free. Register through Guavapass or on Golden Mile Galleria’s Facebook page. Tel: (04) 390 3333. goldenmilegalleria.com.
Brave an outdoor brunch
With summer temperatures finally behind us (hurrah!), al fresco dining is back on the menu. We’re kicking off autumn (although it doesn’t feel like it at 30+ degrees) with Cielo Sky Lounge’s weekly brunch, which offers Dubai Creek views, chilled-out live music and the Nutella-drizzled dessert above… need we say more?
Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, Baniyas Road, Dubai, 12pm to 4pm, Dhs199 with soft drinks, Dhs249 with house beverages, Dhs299 with bubbles. Tel: (04) 4161 800. dubaigolf.com.
Saturday 4
Catch an outdoor movie
Now that evenings are made for sitting out under the stars, we’re all about the al fresco movie—which is what you’ll find at Le Royal Meridien’s thrice-weekly new pop-up. Every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday until December 26, the hotel will screen classic films on their lawn. This Saturday you’ll find Che Guevara biopic The Motorcycle Diaries, as well as a private bar, a menu of cinema snacks, and the option to order a pre-theatre meal from Dhs120 from one of the hotel’s five restaurants.
Le Royal Méridien Beach Resort and Spa, Al Sufouh Road, Dubai, free (first come first served), 8pm, Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tel: (04) 399 5333. leroyalmeridien-dubai.com.
Go for a chop
Weekends are made for life admin, and we reckon getting rid of those splits ends falls under that banner (and hey, the head massage and endless cups of tea are just an added bonus). We recommend checking out the newest branch of Rossano Ferretti (yep, the guy behind the Duchess of Cambridge’s locks), which has just opened in Abu Dhabi. Want to know what to expect? Read our review of the Dubai salon here…
Rossano Ferretti, Villa 306, Karamah Street, Abu Dhabi, open 9am to 8pm. Tel: (02) 645 3313. rfhairspa.com.
