Welcome to 2018…
After much discussion and speculation, the Burj Khalifa’s first New Year’s laser show has been and gone.
Through December, details kept coming out regarding the festive show at the world’s tallest building. Eventually we heard that yes, the usual fireworks would be replaced with a light show, with organisers citing safety reasons for the change.
Instead, Dubai was treated to a record-breaking show, which included a tribute to the UAE’s founding father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nayhan, as well as Arabic calligraphy and the UAE flag.
You certainly couldn’t do all that with fireworks. The 828-metre tower was lit up in tandem with the Dubai Fountain, and accompanied by music.
If you missed it, don’t stress – What’s On report that the show will be on repeat all week until January 6.
It was pretty spectacular, to say the least. Here’s a look at some of the best moments of the seven-minute show…
Where else to start but with HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum? The ruler of Dubai posted this video of the Light Up 2018 show on Instagram.
His son, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, posted a similarly stunning photo and a message from Dubai to the world. If anyone’s going to speak for us, we’re thinking it makes sense that it’s the Crown Prince.
And here’s a few more favourite shots…
Love the falcon. Happy new year, everyone.
