Remote work might be on the horizon as the flow of traffic in the city continues to increase.

Due to an influx of tourists and global business operations, the strain on the roads especially during peak hours, has led to the government seeking out for options ranging from the implementation of flexible working hours and remote work policies to ease the congestion.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, chaired the meeting which approved the plans on Wednesday May, 2025 Wednesday May 8 during the Arabian Travel Market.

Plans were also approved for the Commercial Transport Strategy 2030 in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda. These plans will aim to increase technology adoption in transport infrastructure by 75 per cent, reduce carbon emissions by 30 per cent and improve operational efficiency by 10 per cent.

Earlier, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) had announced plan to boost Dubai’s network of dedicated bus lanes to over 20km, with the lanes set for completion between 2025 and 2027.
Overall, the Commercial Transport Strategy 2030 in line with the Dubai Economic Agenda will also aim to increase transport infrastructure by 75 percent, reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency by 10 percent.

The Survey

Due to the heavy traffic flow, RTA in Dubai has launched an in-depth survey to collate insights on how both flexible working hours and remote working could ease traffic during peak hours.

Respondents are asked to share their opinions about other work policies that can be implemented in their companies, such as compressed working schemes (slight increase in daily working hours and reduced working days/increase in holidays by, say, one additional day every two weeks).
