A historic first!

After spending the last ten years dominating the music charts, Taylor Swift was named Billboard’s ‘Woman of the Decade’, becoming the first recipient to do so. While accepting the award, the 10-time Grammy winning artist gave an empowering speech, while dazzling in jewellery by Lebanese-Brazilian designer, Ana Khouri.

This past week was a big-one for the singer, who just turned 30 on Friday. As the star of the event, Taylor walked the pink-carpet in a head-turning Oscar de la Renta jumpsuit, which featured gold-chain detailing. She completed the look with metallic Sergio Rossi heels and Ana Khouri’s Diamond Christy and Lily Earrings.

After a decade of hits like Shake it off and Bad Blood, Taylor was presented the ‘Woman of the Decade’ body-positive activist and actress Jameela Jamil. Taylor took this opportunity to give a lengthy speech, addressing her ongoing feud with US businessman, record executive and manager to the stars Scooter Braun over the rights to her music. She also thanked her fans, the Swifties for the last 10 years of her career.

“Thank you for a magnificent, happy, free, confused, sometimes lonely but mostly golden decade,” she said. “I’m honoured to be here tonight. I feel very lucky to be with you, thank you so much.”

Moreover, in her 15-minute speech, Taylor took the time to address double standards and the toxic-male masculinity in the music industry. “Let me just say that the definition of the toxic male privilege in our industry is people saying, ‘But he’s always been nice to me!’ when I’m raising valid concerns about artists and their right to own their music.”
