Step off the treadmill, forget spinning and grab a skipping rope because this cardio trend is taking over Dubai.

Far from a playground game, skipping is a dynamic cardio workout that is challenging and also offers a variety of movement that rowing machines and running don’t – just look at all the pro boxers.

Co-founder of the Gym Maxine Russel shares with us five reason why you should pick up the ropes:

  1. It is a cardio workout which targets all of your muscles including your abs, lower back, calves and thighs.

 

  1. It enables your muscles to gain strength as well as helps improve cardiovascular fitness at the same time.

 

  1. At around 480 calories burned in 30 mins it’s a favourite for burning calories and losing weight (30 mins can be split in various ways from 1 min sets to 10 mins sets depending on your level of fitness.) Most people can’t skip for 30 mins straight but makes for a great challenge.

  1. The impact caused on the body with each jump can help improve bone density and is not as hard on the joints as running is because both legs absorb the impact instead of one at a time as is with running.

 

  1. Lastly it’s a cheap form of exercise that anyone young or old can do anywhere, anytime making it accessible to almost everybody. No excuses.
