Want to escape the stresses of modern life for a weekend? A new hotel is opening in September that will recreate some of Dubai’s old-world charm.

Located on the banks of Dubai Creek, Al Seef Hotel by Jumeirah is a throwback to the UAE’s traditional architecture.

The 200-room hotel is spread across 22 separate Arabian Bayt (homes), with a common courtyard. Based on the pictures, it’s going to feel like stepping back in time.

Here’s how Alessandro Cabella, area general manager at Jumeirah Group, described the hotel: “By having the 200 rooms spread over 22 separated buildings, areas of personal peace are created, so it will feel like staying in someone’s home.

“The property pays homage to the age-old days of the region.”

The rooms will feature Middle Eastern woven fabrics, wooden beams, lamps, rustic ceilings with fans, antique light switches and replica old-fashioned radios and carpets.

The views from the rooms are of the winding corridors of the souk located below and of the Creek situated a few metres away.

While you might be accustomed to hotel bathrooms stocked with designer toiletries, at Al Seef Hotel you’ll find handmade organic exfoliating soap made with sand from each of the UAE’s seven emirates.

The property is part of the wider Al Seef development, which includes a number of restaurants, shops, cafes and plazas located along the two-kilometre promenade.

It’s worth noting that the general area of the Dubai Creek was recently in the running to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Such is the historical importance of this district, that HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, recently brought his 10-year-old daughter Sheikha Al Jalila to the nearby area of Al Shindagha to show her his birthplace.
