The airline has paid tribute to the UAE’s Founding Father with their 100th A380.

We’re always pretty excited to step foot onto one of Emirates’ giant double-decker planes (because hey, is there any better feeling than jetting off on holiday?).

But now we’ve got our eyes on travelling via a particular one.

The Dubai-based airline has just unveiled the 100th A380 aircraft to join its fleet, and it has a rather patriotic theme.

The plane is emblazoned with a portrait of the late HH Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the Founding Father of the UAE.

The design pays tribute to the theme of 2018 in the Emirates, the Year of Zayed, which marks 100 years since Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s birth.

“The Year of Zayed is a great national occasion when we will proudly share memories of the life of the Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his gift to us of deeply rooted values, principles and traditions that have become part of our Emirati identity,” said President Sheikh Khalifa when the theme was announced.

While the year will celebrate Sheikh Zayed’s role in making the UAE what it is today, residents will also be encouraged to echo the founder’s values, including those of wisdom, respect, determination,  and loyalty.

Throughout the year, initiatives will be established that mark Sheikh Zayed’s pioneering spirit, vision for the UAE and his leadership.

Emirates have commissioned a further nine planes to be decorated in the special livery, which is the first time the airline has put a public figure on the outside of its aircraft.

The planes will carry the portrait throughout 2018, Emirates revealed, and will fly a range of routes across the world (so our chances on getting on one might not be that bad).

“HH Sheikh Zayed dedicated his life to the building of a prosperous UAE, and we are proud to celebrate his remarkable legacy and honour his memory,” said Emirates’ chairman and CEO, HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum.

“Sheikh Zayed left an indelible mark on our home, the UAE, and we hope to help preserve his legacy and spirit, by spreading his message of inspiration, dedication, and leadership around the world as our aircraft take to the skies and circle the globe.”
