For the last month, His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, has been spearheading the annual Dubai Fitness Challenge.
To mark the ending of the annual challenge, the Dubai Run takes place where Sheikh Hamdan is seen running with many of the emirate’s residents each year and this one was no exception.
As His Highness was joined by a number of residents participating in the 5km and 10km run, one of which included Rio Watson.
The 18-year-old has a chromosome disorder known as 1q44 deletion denovo – a rare genetic condition that affects motor and speech functions.
Rio was taking part in the run being pushed by his sister Tia.
In a video posted to social media, Sheikh Hamdan spotted Tia and Rio – who were taking part in the run with their mother and father – and took over from Tia pushing Rio’s wheelchair.
As per Team Angel Wolf – the Instagram account of Rio’s family – Sheikh Hamdan was leading the way when it comes to inclusivity.
“It was a beautiful example of Inclusive Imapctivity,” Team Angel Wolf said. “Thank you for being such an inspiring leader, a true role model and making time for your community!”
It’s been reported over 14,600 UAE residents attended the run, a record-breaking number.
