Crazy Rich Asians meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Priyanka Chopra Jonas has been having a great year so far, and it keeps getting better. The Bollywood actress recently released a hit Youtube special, If I Could Tell You One Thing, where she interviewed three inspirational women. Now, the newlywed announced that she is joining forces with American-Indian actress and writer, Mindy Kailing on an Indian Wedding comedy film.
Priyanka took to Instagram to share the news with her 38.7 million Instagram fans, writing: “Two women with a passion for telling good stories, just got the green light to THEIR story THEIR way. So proud of this incredible partnership with @mindykaling and #dangoor! We are about to show you what it means to be modern, global, and Indian. See you at the cinema!”

In this film, the Quantico actress will work with Mindy, best known for her role as Kelly Kapoor in hit sitcom, The Office. Universal Pictures won the rights to the film earlier this week, beating out bids from Legendary, Sony, Netflix, and Amazon Studios. The comedy will be set in America and India, and will tell the story of a big traditional Indian wedding and the ensuing culture clashes. Will it draw inspiration from Priyanka and Nick Jonas’ extravagant wedding?
According to Deadline, the film has been pitched as Crazy Rich Asians meets My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Mindy is set to write and produce the project along with Dan Goor, the co-creator and executive producer of NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Not only that, but she also has the option to direct the film. The 39-year-old took to Instagram to share her excitement: “My dream team is making a movie. Can’t wait for this one!”
