The dazzling souk is one of the city’s most Instagrammable spots.

Much like the jewellery within its sprawling labyrinths, Dubai’s Gold Souk needs a little polish to make it sparkle.

The Deira market, which is one of the oldest in Dubai, is set to undergo a major facelift, The National reports. This will include touch-ups to the shop facades, as well as upgrades to ventilation, lighting and the addition of smart signage.

Khalid Mohammed Ahmed, head of urban heritage design projects at the Architectural Heritage Department, told the newspaper care would be taken to preserve the distinctive character of the building.

There will also be random testing to ensure the gold and jewellery on sale is up to scratch – which is good news for all of you bling lovers.

The Gold Souk is one of Dubai’s most visited attractions, home to around 800 shops selling jewellery made from gold, silver, diamonds and other precious metals and stones. It is surrounded by a perfume souk, spice souk and textile souk.

Luxury Italian label Dolce & Gabbana is a big fan of Dubai’s atmospheric souks, having used them in photoshoots on more than one occasion.
