Slide into the weekend
Perennial favourite Mahiki has launched a new Thursday night, and we’re thinking it’ll be popular. They’re promising hip hop and R&B all night, and free drinks for ladies before midnight. Could this be the offer that keeps us from being in bed by 8pm on Thursdays? You’ll soon find out. DJs Neil T and Behruz Mistry will be in charge of the tunes.
Mahiki, Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Jumeirah Beach Road, Umm Suqeim, Dubai. Tel: (055) 216 0181. mahiki.com/dubai.
Share a restaurant with some modern art
As you’re more than likely well aware, Art Dubai kicks off this weekend, and to celebrate, La Petite Maison is hosting some key pieces from the Opera Gallery’s modern art collection. Pictured above is one of Jeff Koons’ ceramic balloon animal sculptures, and you can see pieces from Chilean artist Eduardo Guelfenbein as well. Organisers say it’s like going to a dinner party hosted by someone with a serious art collection. Of course, the DIFC restaurant’s usual French-Italian fare will be on offer.
Art Dubai at La Petite Maison, Gate Village 08 DIFC. Tel: (04) 439 0505.

See Van Gogh on a whole new scale
Remember that Van Gogh exhibition we talked about back in January? It’s made it to Dubai, and we’re just as excited as we were a couple of months ago. Van Gogh Alive sees a selection of the artist’s major works projected onto the walls of its D3 space, accompanied by classical music. We’ve heard it’s stunning, and it’s in Dubai for six weeks.
Van Gogh Alive, Dubai Design District. Until April 23. Dhs70 per person through Platinumlist.
Get the crew together for brunch
Their ladies night is one of our favourites, and STK’s Friday brunch is also quickly making a name for itself as a must-do. If you haven’t already visited this super-stylish steakhouse, there’s no time like the present. Expect burrata, oysters and tamarind prawns alongside your prime fillet. DJ Drew Moreland is in charge of tunes, and there’s creme brulee for dessert. Done.
Dare to Brunch, STK, Rixos Premium, JBR, Dubai. Fridays 1-4pm. Dhs349 with soft drinks and Dhs499 with house beverages. Tel: (04) 323 0061. facebook.com/stkdubaijbr.

Celebrate St Patrick’s Day creekside
The Irish national day runs all day at QD’s in the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club. Whether you’re keen on a full Irish breakfast, live music and games, or a good spot to catch the Six Nations rugby in the evening, this is the spot. Plus, you can’t go wrong with that creekside setting regardless or the day of the week.
St Patrick’s Day at QD’s, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club, Dubai Creek Club Street. Breakfast Dhs65 including pint. Tel: (04) 295 6000. dubaigolf.com.
Hit the beach in style
There are only so many temperate weekends left before we’re living through 50-degree heat. Make the most of them and get outdoors, is our thinking. That makes the Jumeirah Beach Hotel’s beach passes especially appealing. They’re available seven days, and you’ll get part of your money back in the form of food and drink vouchers. This is a must if you’ve got guests in town and want to show them a little bit of Dubai luxury. Or you can just treat yourself. The Burj views alone are worth it.
Beach access at Jumeirah Beach Hotel, Jumeirah Beach Road, Umm Suqeim. Includes access to beaches, pools, towels, loungers, and lockers. Dhs580 for one and Dhs850 for a couple, with Dhs150 and Dhs300 back in vouchers respectively. Lower rates during the week, children’s rates also available. Tel: (04) 406 8800. jumeirah.com.
