Think Yasmine Hamdan and the Wanton Bishops…

What did you last see at Dubai Opera? A musical, a ballet, a performance from a symphony orchestra?

Whatever it was, we’re thinking this is going to provide a point of difference. The stunning downtown venue is about to play host to an Arabic indie music festival, and it sounds pretty incredible.

Come April 28, dxbeats will take over Dubai Opera, treating fans to five hours of live music.

And who’s playing, you ask?

Well, headlining is Lebanese legend Yasmine Hamdan. She initially rose to prominence with her band Soapkills, but her solo career has gone from strength to strength.

Here’s her song Hal, which featured in Jim Jarmusch’s 2014 film Only Lovers Left Alive.

Amazing.

Hamdan will be joined by Beirut’s blues rock band the Wanton Bishops. Here’s their single Sun Rising.

They’ve opened for acts like Lana Del Rey and the Who, so we can’t wait to see what they do on the Dubai Opera stage.

Also on the bill are Moroccan songwriter Manal, Egyptian duo Sharmoofers, and Syrian rapper Moh Flow.

Here’s Manal’s song Koulchi Ban.

The Dubai Opera itself will be transformed for this one-night festival, with most of the seating removed. You’ll have plenty of room to dance, is the impression we’re getting. Promoters say there will be room for 3,000 people.

We’ll see you there.

dxbeats, April 28, doors at 5pm, performances start at 6pm. Dubai Opera, Downtown Dubai. Tickets from Dhs225. dubaiopera.com
