The Indian actress is visiting Rohingya refugees in Cox’s Bazar, one of the world’s largest refugee camps.

It’s been only a few days since millions of us around the world watched Priyanka Chopra attend the wedding of her best friend Meghan Markle to Prince Harry, now known the Duchess and Duke of Sussex, at Windsor Castle.

And while it’s hard to imagine a more exclusive event, Chopra hasn’t lost a sense of what it means to give back to society. Appointed as the Global Goodwill Ambassador by UNICEF in 2016, she’s keen to make a real difference among the grassroots.

Yesterday, she posted images on Instagram of her field visit to Bangladesh. She’s visiting the Rohingya refugees in Balukhali Refugee Camp in Cox’s Bazar, one of the world’s largest camps of its kind.

Reportedly, nearly 700,000 people have fled the Rakhine State of Myanmar in 2017 and that over 300,000 of them are children.

In one image she can be seen looking across the river that separates Bangladesh and Myanmar and recounting the perilous journeys that the refugees had to make to escape the violence in their home country and flee to Bangladesh.

In a series of other images and videos, Priyanka can be seen playing board games with the children, talking to them, enjoying a make-believe tea party and going through their drawings as well. In one chilling image, she shows the drawing by a 12-year-old boy. He drew an image of a helicopter shooting at him and his friends who were playing football outside their houses – vivid images that he remembers of his last few hours in Myanmar before they were forced to flee.

Priyanka is lending her support to the UNICEF creation of the Child Friendly Spaces within camps like this one which gives children access to music, sport, education, art and counselling.

You might remember the Quantico star’s previous field visits with UNICEF including the one to Zimbabwe last year where she met with children who are victims of sexual violence and another visit to Jordan where she visited refugee and migrant children.

Priyanka is one of India’s most followed celebrities on Instagram. Her 23.6 million followers are more than the combined following of Bollywood megastars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.

That sort of social media clout gives Priyanka a strong platform to draw attention to worthy causes like this one. Props, Priyanka.
