This Elie Saab number is going straight to our screenshots folder.

It’s no surprise when Hollywood stars turn to the Middle East when they need glamour. No one does sequins, colour, and drama like designers from our part of the world.

Saturday night saw Los Angeles play host to the Acadamy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ 9th Annual Governors Awards, with big names like Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lawrence in attendance. Our favourite look of the night, though, came from Australian actress Abbie Cornish.

Dressed by Lebanese design hero Elie Saab, Cornish looked stunning in a long-sleeved and intricately detailed gown.

Here’s a closer look at the jewel-toned dream:

She looks like a work of art. Perfect makeup, too. It’s done enough to fit with the occasion, but doesn’t talk over her dress. Well done all around.

The same night, actress Selma Blair attended the Baby2Baby Gala across town. Blair (who we’ll always love for her early role in Cruel Intentions) opted for a dress from Rani Zakhem, also of Lebanon.

With an asymmetrical neckline, leather panel, and pleated kaleidoscope skirt, it’s unconventional, glam, and a bit of fun. Blair looks great.

At the same event, Molly Sims opted for a sparkling, silver V-neck number also from Rani Zakhem. We love the black belt for a bit of contrast:

The half-sleeve and that hemline work very well together. It’s a simple, effective cut that lets the beading do the heavy lifting. We’re feeling it.

Beirut-born Zuhair Muad wasn’t far from the red-carpet action either, dressing actress Jessica Biel for a US press junket.

This lavender jumpsuit with just a whisper of lace is just what we need for winter brunch season (we’re enjoying the matching lilac-y eyeshadow too).

Across the Atlantic, London saw the MTV European Music Awards take place. Host Rita Ora made some sort of style statement by showing up in a dressing gown:

From the sofa, to the car, to the @mtvema red carpet ❣

Is she angling for inclusion in Mario Testino’s towel series? We’re not sure if this is going to work.

Opt for a Middle Eastern designer next time, we say.
