Inside the wardrobes and homes of the region’s most respected trendsetters and tastemakers. This month we enter the chic Dubai Palm home of fashion designer and personal stylist Camilla Max Larsen.
There are people you follow on Instagram, and then there are those you incessantly stalk, whose style/ life/ dog/ lunch looks utterly, impossibly perfect every single day. Danish fashion designer and personal stylist Camilla Max Larsen is one such victim, subject to our regular Insta-gawping thanks to her effortless yet luxe Scandi cool.

Responsible for founding brand Tales of Rebels and bringing it to Dubai, her printed satin abayas, customisable Dubai-slogan dresses and jackets, and dextrous ways with multi-coloured python (she can make you anything from a pair of boxing gloves to a jewellery box in the stuff), have had us transfixed for a while now.
Camilla’s villa on The Palm, which she shares with her husband and two children, is every bit as envy-inducing as you’d expect – a minimalist haven peppered with Hermes boxes, Gavin Turk artwork and zebra hide rugs. We left thinking that if there was an award for the coolest woman in Dubai, she’d win hands down.

MY STYLE SECRET
I have lots of style secrets! Firstly, real style comes from the inside. If you don’t feel good on the inside you can see it on the outside. You can’t buy style. Your wardrobe isn’t a museum – use your clothes instead of saving them for a special occasion. My Tales of Rebels kimonos can save pretty much any outfit. And – last but not least – always be you!
BARGAIN HUNTER…
An honest answer; I never buy anything on sale.
“We’ve got a couple of Gavin Turk pieces from his Trash collection – I bought the apple core because I thought it was funny. If you look closely it has his initials and the date on it.”

STYLE ICONS
I can still be inspired all these years later by re-watching old episodes of Sex And The City – who doesn’t love Patricia Field? Her looks all still work today. Iris Apfel is another inspiration.
TREASURED PIECES
My Balenciaga leather biker jacket, my Chanel bags and my Birkins. One of my new favourites is my butterfly-embroidered Valentino army jacket. And a Chanel raincoat…
UNIFORM OF CHOICE
I generally go for ripped jeans and a Tales of Rebels printed kimono with sneakers or my Valentino Rock Studs.

SHOP STOP
As a designer I usually prefer to wear my own line, or clothes from our sister brand in LA – Rock ‘n’ Roll People on Melrose. For online shopping though, I love mytheresa.com. My next business idea is to open a concept store like Paris’ Collette here in Dubai – I feel like we need one. Somewhere that sells great high-end and more affordable stuff together.
CLOSET CONFIDENTIAL
For my personal styling clients I always say that you should only have in your wardrobe what you actually wear. If you haven’t worn it for three years, it needs to go. Focus on using and mixing all the nice things you have left!
MY DAY-TO-DAY WARDROBE
A pair of Golden Goose or Adidas Stan Smith sneakers. I wear sneakers if I can get away with it.
