Does the MCU have a new member?

Zain Al Rafeea became one of the breakout stars of 2018, when he landed the star role in Nadine Labaki’s Oscar nominated film, Capernaum. Now, it seems like the young Syrian actor is set to join the world’s most successful franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Zain, a Syrian refugee moved to Lebanon in 2012, where he grew up in the slums of Beirut with his parents. The young boy was working as a delivery boy when he met Lebanese director Nadine Labaki. He then went on to star in her heart-wrenching movie, which follows a 12-year-old boy who resorts to stealing and begging to survive on the streets of Beirut, and proceeds to sue his parents for bringing him into a world of suffering.

Now, Zain is a 15-year-old teen living in Norway and it seems like his career is just beginning. Recent Instagram posts seem to be hinting at the fact that the young actor is part of Marvel’s upcoming film, The Eternals. This movie is set to be the 25th instillment in the MCU, which tells the story of an immortal race called the Eternals, who are in a millennium-old conflict with the less-evolved Deviants, and their originators, the Celestials. All of the Eternals have strange, sometimes monstrous, powers.

The film’s main cast has been unveiled, and it includes some of the biggest names in Hollywood like: Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Kit Harington, Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Barry Keoghan, Brian Tyree Henry, Kumail Nanjiani, Lauren Ridloff, Don Lee and Lia McHugh.

Salma, who is set the play the role of Ajak, leader of the Eternals posted a photo on her Instagram with Lia McHugh and Zain, which she captioned: “Hanging with the Eternals’ youth.”

Zain also shared the picture on his Instagram account, along with numerous others of him touring Hollywood. However, the young actor’s role hasn’t been revealed yet, but we are excited to see the Syrian play a superhero. The Eternals is slated for a November 2020 release, ringing in a new era for the Marvel Universe.
