It’s a sad time for fashion and the red carpet as designer Zac Posen shuts down his eponymous label.

A firm favourite among the A-list, including Katie Holmes, Amal Clooney and Princess Eugenie, the designer has been a prominent name in the industry for almost two decades. He said that the whole experience has been “horrible,” and added, “We were in a sale process and we ran out of time.”
Fresh out of Central Saint Martins, at 22 he was crowned Designer of the Year. Posen pretty much made the mermaid dress a must at any glittering event, but has failed to find new investors or a buyer for the business. Both of his namesake brands House of Z, and diffusion line Z Spoke, had shuttered.

“My partners and I tried everything possible within our means to find solutions to keep it going,” he told WWD. “I have been trying to find the right strategic partners at this tough time in retail and in the industry. The clock ran out.”
What made the news even more intense is the fact that the operations were shut immediately with employees of the company only receiving the news on Friday.
