‘We are on the right path’

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to affect many countries around the world, more and more tests are being conducted in order to identify those who are suffering from COVID-19, or who may be carrying the virus.

Nearly three million cases have been confirmed worldwide, of which there has been over 200,00 deaths and over 800,000 recoveries. In the UAE, there has been 10,349 confirmed cases – that includes 1,978 recoveries and 76 fatalities.

The nation has been extremely proactive in implementing many preventative measures in order to contain the spread of coronavirus. So much so, the UAE ranked amongst the top 10 countries in the world for the nation’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now, the country has met another milestone in their fight against COVID-19 – over one million coronavirus tests have now been completed throughout the nation.

“The more tests we conduct, the earlier we detect more cases, and the more effectively we can contain the virus,” Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Mohammad bin Nasser Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention explained in a statement. “The more tests we perform, the more proactive we can handle those proven to be in contact with confirmed cases, as well as those who don’t exhibit any symptoms and yet carry the infection.”

The minister also explained the UAE’s strategy of mass testing is leading the country on the “right path”.

“It is normal that we detect more cases when we accelerate screening,” he said. “And herein, we would like to reassure the public that this increase in the number of patients is expected and proves that we are on the right path to contain the spread of the virus.”

Not only has the government implemented mass testing nationwide, a Centre of Coronavirus Control has been established, field hospitals have been built in record time, apps have been launched to track the virus, thorough sterilisation methods have been implemented and necessary lockdowns have taken place, all of which have contributed to efforts to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus.
