The UAE has announced updated COVID-19 rules as many prepare to celebrate the festive season.

On Wednesday, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) unveiled new protocols in order to curb the spread of coronavirus.

“As the holiday season and official celebrations approach, we announce, today, the protocol for Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations,” the authority said.

As part of the protocols for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, venues will be required to limit their capacity to 80 per cent. Those attending events will also be required to have a negative PCR test no less than 96 hours old.

Temperate checks will also be mandatory and event organisers have also been urged to avoid overcrowding spaces.

Similarly, as has been the case since the pandemic began, social distancing measures should be adhered to and masks should be worn.
