The crème de la crème of the fashion and celebrity world descended upon New York City earlier this week to mark the annual Met Gala.

The stars came in their masses, each taking to the red carpet in show-stopping ensembles. However, one such gown which stood out from the rest was Kim Kardashian’s, not because of its appearance, but because of the history behind it.

Kardashian donned late Hollywood starlet Marilyn Monroe’s iconic nude crystal-embellished gown she wore in 1962 when she serenaded then-President John F. Kennedy at his birthday party at the White House. The late Hollywood starlet’s rendition of ‘Happy Birthday’ which she sang to JFK has become one of the most notable of all time.

When asked about the iconic ensemble, Kardashian revealed on the red carpet she crash dieted in order to fit into the gown.

“I had this idea to put it on and to try it on, and they came with armed guards and gloves. I tried it on and it didn’t fit me, and so I looked at them and said give me like three weeks, and I had to lose 16 lbs, down today, to be able to fit this,” she told Vogue US. “It was such a challenge, it was like a role, I was determined to fit it.”

However, the admission has been slammed by some, including Riverdale actress Lili Reinhart.

In a series of now-expired Instagram stories, Reinhart slammed the reality star for making such an admission.

“To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala,” she said, per Buzzfeed. “When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word.

“To walk on a red carpet and do an interview where you say how starving you are … because you haven’t eaten carbs in the last month … all to fit in a ——- dress?”

Reinhart went on to label the comments “disgusting”, adding that fans needed to stop supporting “harmful celebrities”.

“The ignorance is other-worldly and disgusting,” she said. “Please stop supporting these stupid, harmful celebrities whose entire image revolves around their bodies.”

The Kardashian-Jenner family have previously been called out for promoting unrealistic body standards by photoshopping themselves in Instagram photos.

Kardashian herself is yet to acknowledge Reinhart’s comments.
