A luminous night

Hundreds of drones flew in Dubai last night, to form an image of the city’s ruler, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The 10-minute display also included a protrait of Dubai’s Crown Prince, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid.

The show took place at Burj Al Arab, and included a ‘Thank you Sheikh Mohammed’ note, and a message in Arabic promoting 2019 as the UAE’s Year of Tolerance. This display comes days after Sheikh Mohammed celebrated 50 memorable years of service to the UAE.

In celebration of his milestone, the Dubai Ruler took to Instagram to to thank all of those who showed appreciation, writing, “I dedicated 50 years of my life serving my country; it gave me experience, wisdom and lots of love and peace.”

He also released the eight principles of governing Dubai on his social media accounts, and called on all of those in a position of responsibility to adhere by these rules.

This year has also been announced as ‘The Year of Tolerance’ and is set to highlight UAE as a global capital for tolerance. The nation is home for over 200 nationalities, and is aiming to instil values of co-existence and peace in local, regional, and international communities.
