Although they survived the controversy surrounding thatBlurred Lines video, sources have confirmed that Robin Thicke and his wife, actress PaulaPatton, have split.

Despite speculation that their marriage has been unraveling over the past year, especially with Robin’s eyebrow-raising flirtatious behaviour,  the couple, who have a four-year-old son, Julian, together, deny they have been experiencing any trouble. Stating in their official announcement: “We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”

The split sees the end of what some called a Hollywood fairy tale. While the couple only wed in 2005 they were actually childhood sweethearts with Robin meeting Paula when he was just 14 and she was 16. Referring to Paula as his “rock”, Robin, now 36, claimed in a recent magazine interview that if it wasn’t for his young sweetheart he wouldn’t be alive. He said: “I don’t know if I would still be alive I some ways if it wasn’t for Paula. She’s been my rock, my muse, my inspiration and I love her. The whole way.”

In spite of all the rumours surrounding their romance, the Mission Impossible actress has been very supportive of her husband, with the star duo regularly making happy appearances on the red carpet together, most recently at the Grammys. However, while they still insist their split is “mutual” many worry Robin’s wandering hands in recent fan Instagram images could be to blame.
In one infamous image taken at the VMAs last year, the singer was caught with his hand on a fan’s bottom. He was only caught out because the wall behind where he was posing was a mirror.

The woman being ‘groped’ was socialite Lana Scolaro who, on hearing about the spilt, told TMZ: “I’d love to grab a drink with him if he asked.” We bet, but we’re also guessing she will have to form an orderly queue for that one. Secretly though,  here’s hoping it’s just a trial separation for the cute couple.
