During Ramadan, many associate breaking the fast with an Iftar offering a sumptuous traditional Arabic buffet of hot and cold mezze, juicy grilled meats, and a dessert counter oozing with sugary treats.
As we all know, indulging in vast amounts of food every evening is not great for our health, nor our waistline. So in keeping with Farah Sawaf’s healthy Ramadan recipes, we’ve discovered the two healthiest iftar’s for you to enjoy in Dubai during the holy month.
First up is Urban Bistro, offering up unlimited servings of healthy lentil soup, fattoush and beetroot and feta cheese salads, braised lamb shank and a mixed grill all for the price of Dhs99 per person.
The cool café, set in Media City, pride themselves on their variety of well-portioned dishes made up of healthy and organic ingredients.
We have to say we enjoyed the traditional aspect of the menu, and it felt good knowing that dishes were not drenched in oil or saturated fats. The best course was the fall-off-the-bone lamb shank, paired with the perfectly portioned mezze dips. Affordable and delicious, this is one Iftar not to miss.
Next is the new healthy eatery in town, Comptoir 102 who are offering up an organic vegetarian-friendly Iftar for Dhs125 per person.
With dish names that include The Detox Delight (chilled soup), Bronsky Beet Feta and Back to Roots (puy lentils with celeriac) we knew we were in for a nutritious Iftar.
We don’t know how the chefs do it, but after enjoying the four, relatively small courses we seriously did not have any room for dessert.
We will also be emailing the chef for the recipes of the puy lentils tossed in mint and the sesame oil buckwheat soba noodles – yum!
Once again, we left Comptoir 102 feeling completely full and nourished inside and out!
