Grammy award-winning music artist, and unassuming male style icon, Pharrell Williams has teamed up with Adidas Originals for what is set to become the coolest collaboration in fashion and sport history.
Adidas Originals x Pharrell Williams is set to be a long-term partnership with the debut collection that will launch this summer. The range will be created with eco-friendly textile company Bionic Yarn.
Pharrell is the CEO of Bionic Yarn, which is part of The Vortex project who work with Parley for the Oceans and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which aims to ‘clean the oceans and shorelines to save marine wildlife and to keep plastic off the food chain.’ Bionic Yarn retrieves plastic debris from the ocean and shore, shredding it and turning it into yarn, which can then be woven into fabric.
With the economical fabric used in some of Pharrell’s designs, there will be an added philanthropic feel to what is already a hotly anticipated fashion collection.
This is not Pharrell’s first foray into the world of fashion. The 41-year-old already owns his own line of clothing, Billionaire Boys Club, and has also collaborated with Comme des Garçons, G-Star Jeans, Moncler and created a T-shirt collection for Uniqlo. The Happy singer, who is often photographed in Adidas Original pieces, most recently at this year’s Oscars in custom Adidas Instint HI’s and a pair of Stan Smiths (both types of trainers from the sport brand), said: “Working with an iconic brand like Adidas is such an incredible opportunity. From the classic tracksuit, to growing up in Virginia wearing Stan Smiths, Adidas has been a staple in my life. Their pieces are timeless. This is an exciting partnership for both me and for Bionic Yarn.”
