online editor blog

Hi, I’m Alexandria and for the past two-and-a-half years I have had the almighty pleasure of working as Deputy Editor across Emirates Woman Group. Recently I was promoted to Editor of emirateswoman.com where, along with the amazing EW team, we’ll be building the site to be as illustrious as the 33-year-old magazine. Along the journey I will keep you abreast of what I’m loving, what’s trending, what’s inspiring and what’s happening behind the scenes….

Meeting PRs and other inspiring tastemakers are all perks of the job and last week I met with Dawnn Karen a fashion psychologist. Confused? So was I initially until I realised how it all made complete sense. “Changing what you wear won’t make you feel better for good, it’s also about changing your psyche.” Expect a feature on here soon with Dawnn giving an insight into team EW‘s wardrobe.

Testing products is also a regular part of the job; but also a pleasure especially when they include NEOM candles – the citrus scent from this candle has made my home feel like an orchard.

New on my beauty must-have list is the Queen Of Hungary Face Mist by Omorovicza (available at Waldorf Astoria, Palm Jumeirah). Boosting the synthesis of collagen it is perfect for a facial pick me up and setting make-up.

Aspinal London

Got to love it when your accessories perfectly compliment your outfit.

I love getting a sneak peek of fashion collections and the Aspinal London range doesn’t disappoint. From structured neutral toned totes to vibrant neon clutches, it has some thing for all tastes and styles.

While I was on a mission to complement my outfit I decided colourful orange nails at Tips & Toes were the way forward. I initially thought the gold nails were a cool touch, not so sure I’ve pulled it off. What do you think?

The Act have launched Showtime, a show depicting what happens behind the scenes of a theatre, offering insights into the art and thrill of the making of a show. Having never been to the pseudo-theatre-cum-restaurant I thought it was about time I experience it, and it was definitely worth the wait. I felt like I was eating dinner in front Cirque Du Soleil.

The Act Showtime

Quirky interiors and delicious Peruvian food, The Act is a series of wonderful surprises

With EW‘s ongoing campaign to get everyone healthy (#EWGetsFit) I jumped at there chance when Reebok and Les Mills invited me to the Talise gym at Jumeirah Beach Hotel for the announcement of their collaboration… and by announcement I mean three back to back workouts (RPM, pump and body balance) to give me and the other participants an insight into their classes, while kitted out in the lasted collection, of course.

Team Motivate after three gruelling, yet fun, classes

On a fitness kick, and with some gentle cohesion from friends I finally attempted FlyWheel. Sixty minutes of pure adrenaline-pumping and sweating inducing routines and I was ruined in a way only a great workout can. I totally understand how you can get addictive, especially, if like me you can be slightly competitive – with your scores on an electronic board your can keep track of your position compared to the rest of the class.

Raspberry cheesecake and mint ice cream might seem like bad way to follow a workout but not at Be Super Natural at Galeries Lafayette, The Dubai Mall, which specialises in all things super healthy and raw. After a kale supersonic salad, ‘warrior’ smoothie and the desserts (yep, I ate both) I can honestly say it’s now my new favourite lunch venue. I can’t wait for them to start their delivery service soon. Try their Be Sure shot – a spicy shot full of the vitamin C you need for the day. I guarantee it’ll make your eyes water!

Also Last Week In EW HQ:

We planned the Emirates Woman Woman Of the Year Awards 2014 nominees shoot #Emirates WomanAwards (Follow us on Instagram and Twitter for behind the scenes gossip).

We watched with amazement as we were shown how the Yonanas machine works – it makes dairy and glutton free ice cream! (Checkout the video on our Facebook page).

We excitedly discussed what it would be like to own the contents of Victoria Beckham’s wardrobe – bring on the Louboutins.

We naughtily ate copious amounts of Coco Jalila chocolates, approx three bags to be precise
