A fresh chapter unfolds at Alexander McQueen as Seán McGirr takes the helm of this brand Kering owned brand.

Ever since the untimely passing of Lee Alexander McQueen in 2010, Sarah Burton, his protégé, has steadily held the position of creative director at his eponymous fashion house.

13 years later,  her illustrious stint comes to an end. Sarah presented her final collection at the recently concluded season of Paris Fashion Week – where she brilliantly bid adieu to the brand with a homage to its iconic predecessor and founder – Alexander McQueen.

Just two days after the showcase, the French-based multinational corporation introduced Irish-born, London-based designer Seán McGirr as the new creative director.

McGirr is graduate from Central Saint Martins, he most recently honed his craft at JW Anderson, where he played a pivotal role in the world of ready-to-wear fashion. His journey through the fashion landscape also includes notable stops at Dries van Noten, Burberry, and Uniqlo.

Gianfilippo Testa, the CEO of Alexander McQueen, expressed his enthusiasm for the brand’s new creative director, stating, “We are delighted to welcome Seán McGirr as creative director. With his experience, personality, and creative energy, he will bring a powerful creative language to Alexander McQueen while building on its unique heritage.”

However, amidst the anticipation and excitement surrounding McGirr’s appointment, some voices have raised concerns about diversity in the fashion industry. It’s worth noting that with McGirr’s ascent, all creative directors at Kering-owned labels now share a common demographic – they are all white men.

As Seán McGirr takes the reins at Alexander McQueen, it remains to be seen how his vision and talents will shape the brand’s future.

In a rapidly evolving industry, questions of diversity and inclusivity should continue to be at the forefront, challenging fashion’s status quo and prompting vital conversations about the path ahead.
