We have gotten used to stars championing couturiers like Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad. However, over the past few years, we have seen more up-and-coming designers get their time in the limelight. One of which is Kuwaiti designer Yousef Al Jasmi, who has dressed everyone from Beyoncé to Kylie Jenner. He has proven that Kuwait’s rising fashion scene is a force to be reckoned with. So, here are five Khaleeji designers who should be on your radar.

The Kuwaiti shoe designer studied political science before discovering her passion for shoe design. After working in the government field, Najeeba decided to jet to Milan to study shoe making. She then started her label Liudmila in 2014, with the aim to make lower-heeled fantasy shoes. Since then her shoes were worn by many, including Bella Hadid, Bella Throne and Ashley Graham.

The designer was a breakthrough star as she became the first Kuwaiti designer to show at Paris Fashion Week. The businesswoman’s label is quickly becoming the go-to for modest-wear and trendy kaftans.

Launched in Kuwait in 2014, Bazza Alzouman was established in order to create fancy dresses perfect for a modern woman. The brand focuses on ethical fashion, as the design, sampling and production are all done locally in-house. The label has been supported by local talent like Maya Diab and Huda Kattan.

The brand was established in 2014, by brother and sister duo, Shouq and Fahad Al Marzouq, who started off in the industry by designing pieces for their family and closest friends. Earlier this year, Marzook collaborated with model and socialite Sofia Richie. The handbag brand has become Hollywood’s go-to for red-carpet events. From Ariana Grande to Priyanka Chopra, it is the perfect party bag.

Even though she studied jewellery design in the United States, it is May Al-Qassar Kuwaiti roots that make her work stand out. Other than sparkling diamonds and gems, her pieces infuse recognisable Arab-influenced shapes with a modern simplicity. The designer started out by making pieces for her friends and family in 2007, three years later she launched her eponymous label after moving back to Kuwait.
