Social media platform is testing the new scheme now.

Doing it for the ‘gram might have a whole new meaning soon as the number of likes on images are about to disappear.

Instagram is testing the new feature this week in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy, Japan and Brazil where users will see their handle name “and others” in place of a like figure – identified by heart symbols.

As a user you will still be able to see how many people double tapped your picture, but that information will be hidden from the public.

Many believe that this move could improve self esteem as you can focus on sharing the images you love rather than the ones you think will get you a bigger recognition.

However others feel that the pressure for snapping the perfect image comes from overflow of curated content on the platform, rather than from how many likes you receive

“The exposure to this constant stream of perfected images is what seems to hurt psychologically,” Renee Engeln, a psychology professor at Northwestern University, told CNN.
