Emirates Woman takes a deep dive on future of fashion and how fashion brands are leveraging emerging frontier technologies.

WEARABLE TECH

Merging fashion, function and technology, the wearable movement remains a hard sell within the industry. As the use of artificial intelligence accelerates, a few innovations stand out making the case for its normalisa- tion and integration into our everyday lives. Enter: Humane AI Pin, a screenless device powered by an advanced Snapdragon®TM processor from Qualcomm Technologies plus, Microsoft and Open AI that blends smart technologies and intuitive interaction. Debuted as part of a collaboration with Paris-based fashion label Coperni, the AI Pin was showcased on the SS24 runway displaying the versatility of how the device can be worn. It boasts a host of new AI-driven capabilities and experiences, giving us a preview of what a post-smartphone era could potentially look like in forward-thinking fashion.

DIGITAL IDS

Digital IDs are unique product passports or digital tags attached to a product in the form of a QR Code or a secured NFC chip. This unique digital tag uses AI-powered technologies that come with potential uses from providing digitised product details, verifying an item’s authenticity to transfer of ownership and more that provides added value and engagement to customers beyond point of sale. EON, a leading retail Digital ID platform backed by the visionary entrepreneur Natalie Massenet, has taken on collaborative special projects with notable brands Chloé and Coach and more recently with Balenciaga for tech-enabled merch embedded with an NFC chip to access an exclusive media experience.

DIGITAL WEARABLES

Over the past year, the fashion industry has played the game of experimenting with Web3. This nascent opportunity emerged as a promising new avenue for fashion brands to draw in new and loyal consumers to interact in ways that are arguably deeper. Although it remains in its infancy, this frontier technology promises to be a gamechanger in many aspects for fashion and luxury power players.

Every first Thursday for every month, for 24 hours, Prada releases a limited-edition piece for its Timecapsule collection. These blockchain-based drops offer NFT holders value and utility such as invitations to exclusive events, allowing tech-savvy shoppers to engage and create an affinity with the brand. Alternatively, Louis Vuitton’s Web3 project called VIA Treasure Trunks allows token holders to claim the corresponding limited- edition physical item. For SS24, the VIA Tile Trunk designed by women’s artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière, made its runway reveal. A homage to the signature “damier” motif, this mini trunk can be claimed in March 2024.
