It was the singer’s first time in Beirut.

The former First Lady of France has wowed the crowds at a world famous arts and culture festival in Lebanon.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who is married to former French president Nicolas Sarkozy, performed songs from her fifth album, French Touch at this year’s Beiteddine Art Festival. The annual event is held at the 200-year-old Beiteddine Palace in the Chouf Mountains, south of Beirut.

The 50-year-old former supermodel, who walked the runway for the likes of Dior, Versace, Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent, was cheered on by her husband. Former Lebanese president Michael Suleiman and current Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri were also in the audience.

Bruni took to Instagram to praise the city after her performance, writing: “Thank you beautiful Beirut for your warm welcome”.

Beiteddine Art Festival was clearly thrilled at the singer’s arrival, sharing a picture of the singer and her husband on Instagram.

The Italian-French musician has sold more than five million albums throughout a career that’s seen her jet set around the world, even performing for the late South African activist and former president, Nelson Mandela.

Other headline acts at the event included Montreal-based troupe Cirque Eloize, and German singer and actress Ute Lemper. The festival will run until August 11.
