Riri herself wasn’t on the list, unfortunately.
It’s got to be the most anticipated beauty launch of the year, and Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty line is finally available. We checked out the launch on Sunday morning at Mall of the Emirates, and we’ve collected our observations for you below.
If you’re not interested in spending any money, we’d recommend you stop reading now. This line is seriously tempting.
SERIOUS, MULTI-PURPOSE GLOW
Fenty Beauty isn’t a huge line, and it’s mostly focused on skin. What’s cool, though, is that all the Killawatt highlighters (pictured above is the Ginger Binge/Moscow Mule duo, Dhs160) are just as at home on eyes as they are on cheeks. We’ve long been proponents of using bronzer and highlighter as eyeshadow, so it’s nice to see a brand encouraging it. Makeup artists will tell you not to obsess so much about what each product is for, and to think of them as colours and textures. That’s exactly what Rihanna’s range points to, and we’re into it.
A SERIOUSLY IMPRESSIVE FOUNDATION RANGE
Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation (Dhs170) comes in 40 different shades. That’s more than Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation, MAC Studio Fix Fluid, and NARS Sheer Glow, all of which we’ve praised in the past for their shade ranges. Rihanna has been clear that her line is for everyone, and that’s reflected here. From super pale to very deep, she’s got you covered, whatever your undertone.
THE PERFECT LIP GLOSS
By contrast, the brand’s lip gloss only comes in the one shade. The Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminiser (Dhs95) is a perfectly balanced rosy nude that really does look great on everyone we’ve seen it on, and feels lovely to wear (it’s made with shea butter). A stand-out product.
What better beverage to sip while listening to Rihanna explain her vision? Sure, it was via video, but we’ll take what we can get.
ACTUALLY COOL BLOTTING PAPER
We’re committed users of blotting paper around these parts, but it’s never struck us as a particularly glamorous habit. Leave it to Rih to fix that. Her Invisitmatte Blotting Paper (Dhs80) comes in a neat little case with its own mirror, because you want to glow, not shine.
