Since its launch in 2015, Emirati Women’s Day has allowed us all to take a pause and thoroughly look at the amazing achievements of Emirati women across a variety of fields.

From athletes and chefs to ministers and filmmakers, Emirati women have left no stone unturned and are continuing to inspire the next generation of thinking women. As we get ready to celebrate this annual event on Friday, August 28, we’ve asked some of our favourite Emirati designers to share a few words of wisdom.

What does being an Emirati women mean today?

The world is going through major transformations, to be a woman leading the next generation today is a great responsibility. Emirati women are pillars of their society, an inspiration to women and a voice that empowers others. Holding the future generations in their hands, as they educate them and set the standards of future generations.

Which women in your life have inspired you?

I’ve been extremely lucky to have been surrounded and raised by inspiring and empowering women throughout my life. The women in my family have always been my role models. In Emirati culture, the women’s majlis was the perfect place to also encounter many inspiring women.

What would you say to the younger generation of Emirati women?

Whether you are someone’s daughter, wife, mother, you are someone’s role model, be the best version of yourself because you never know who is looking up at you. Please thank and show gratitude to the women in your life who have inspired you – they might not even know and you will make their day.

What does being an Emirati woman mean today?

It’s so diverse it’s difficult to pin down, but definitely a strong presence with a very cosmopolitan outlook. A woman with a strong sense of family yet ambitious as well.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

I believe life is a journey so I believe in always growing and evolving. However, at this point I would have to say my three children who inspire me and support me every day.

What would you say to the younger generation of Emirati women?

Nothing can hold you back or limit you. Explore everything and learn from every experience you have.

What does being an Emirati woman mean today?

We don’t think there can be one meaning. If we admit to a certain definition then it would be like putting a limit to what an Emirati Woman can be. The beauty of being an Emirati Woman is the diversity it allows you.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Looking back, our greatest achievement has been the ability to fail and perceive failure as a step in a larger process. The moment you realize that failure and setbacks aren’t the end, but different pieces of a puzzle, it becomes easier to stand up again and complete the bigger picture.

What would you say to the younger generation of Emirati women?

It’s okay to find motivation in the little things, it makes the journey so much more colourful.

What does being an Emirati woman mean today?

Being an Emirati woman today is a big responsibility to represent one of the greatest countries in the world. We are very lucky to be from a country where our rulers are supportive of women and are always encouraging us to work harder and achieve more. I am continually inspired by all the high achieving Emirati women, from business owners to industry leaders and family makers.

What has been your greatest achievement so far?

Starting my own business and following my dream is one of my greatest achievements. But my most meaningful yet challenging achievement is being a mother and raising the next generation. Our children are the future representation of our country and our role as mothers is to teach them values and morals, amongst other things.

What would you say to the younger generation of Emirati women?

Anything is possible! The opportunities are endless so whatever your mind can imagine, you can achieve.
