Karl Lagerfeld’s iconic contributions to fashion continue to be remembered and his ideas were once again brought to life at Chanel’s most recent showcase.

The Chanel Cruise 2022 presentation was filled with echoes of modern glamour with hints of nostalgia, as it shed light on Lagerfeld’s undeniable legacy. Virginie Viard, the fashion house’s current creative director, presented a show that was every inch reminiscent of Chanel’s classic moments.

By adding core elements, the collection focused on Maison’s staple textile, tweed, silk jumpsuits, wide-cut trousers, pointe shoes and bags with sporty infusions to it. With a playful twist, the collection took cues from Monaco’s inherent history and displayed accessories such as slot machine bags, sequined baseball caps and metallic lame sneakers.

With a collection to champion her predecessor’s legacy, Virginie Viard said, “To me, Monaco is a matter of feelings above all. That’s Karl, Caroline, Charlotte.”

“From very early on, I knew we would hold a show there, and more precisely at the Beach Hotel. Besides, Karl was dreaming about it. From this magnificent venue, one can glimpse his villa, La Vigie.”

The show was presented at the Monte Carlo Beach Hotel, a place close to Lagerfeld’s heart. As a place inherent to the history of the house, it only made sense to pick a venue inspired by the cosmopolitan beach lifestyle of the country along with Chanel’s past.

To revive other notable aspects, Viard’s key muses strutted the runway, bringing that element of surprise to the show. Amongst the audience sat a star-studded crowd with Kristen Stewart, Tilda Swinton, Vanessa Paradis and Sofia Coppola, who was seen basking in the sun with views of the sandy catwalk.
