Due to the current political situation

Canadian legend and diva, Celine Dion has officially pulled out of her much-anticipated concert in Lebanon. In September, the Lebanese people took to the streets demanding an overhaul of the political system, and ever since the situation has been unstable.

Back in September, Byblos International Festival announced that the five-time Grammy award winning artists is one of the acts expected to perform at the event. The announcement was made on the festival’s official Instagram account, where they posted a photo a message written on a mirror, saying: “See you soon, Beirut! Love Celine…”

However, earlier this month, organisers of the festival released a Facebook statement, saying that the My Heart Will Go On hit maker’s concert had been cancelled. “Due to the current situation in Lebanon, Byblos International Festival and Celine Dion Management have both agreed with deep regret to cancel Celine Dion’s appearance at Beirut Waterfront on July 31st 2020,” the concise update read.

News has clearly upset fans, as one commented under the post, writing: “I [have] waited all my life to watch Celine in her concert and look what happens.” Sentiments were shared, as another said: “What a pity. I was in Lebanon last year to see Yanni at the same place. Loved Beirut and its people. Would return with no doubt.”

The 51-year-old diva was expected to bring her Courage tour to Beirut, performing songs from her new album of the same name along with some of her biggest hits. It is yet to be announced who will replace Celine at the festival, as the full line up for the 2020 Byblos International Festival has not been released yet.
