In a sudden turn of events, Britain’s King Charles III has been diagnosed with a form of cancer.

With little details known about the type, the disease came to light while the king was being treated in hospital for an enlarged prostate.

According to the latest statement released by Buckingham Palace, it said, “During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.”

His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties

Despite the pause on public events, the King will continue with his constitutional role as head of state, including paperwork and private meetings.

Notable public figures including UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak wished the king well on X, saying: “Wishing His Majesty a full and speedy recovery.

Aditionally, Northern Ireland’s First Minister Michelle O’Neill wished the king a full and speedy recovery.

“I am very sorry to hear of King Charles’s illness and I want to wish him well for his treatment, and a full and speedy recovery,” she posted on X.

When did the royal take on his role as King?

In May 2023, the world watched King Charles III become the 40th reigning monarch of the UK.Spread across two days, King Charles III’s coronation was divided in multiple events. From the offcial swearing in ceremony at the Westminster Abbey to the coronation concert the following day, it was an eventful weekend in the UK.
