After being postponed earlier this year, the 2020 Billboard Music Awards went ahead last night in the US with a number stars posing in front of a socially distanced backdrop.

With performances pre-recorded, it was a very different affair to the previous year but it hasn’t stopped the American singer Doja Cat dazzling in a sparkling ensemble from Lebanese couturier Georges Hobeika.

The bespoke dress was a visual throwback to Britney Spears “Toxic” video with its sheer panelling and plenty of shine. The singer also wore a custom mini dress from the designer for her on-stage performance that felt like it was plucked out of the retro showgirl era with its fringed skirt and a bejewelled bodice.

Another Arab creative that shone brightly on the night was Kuwaiti designer Yousef Al Jasmi who dressed the queen of soul Alicia Keys. The singer stepped out in a shimmering jumpsuit to perform “Love Looks Better” at The Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.

Ahead of the performance, Keys took to Instagram to explain the new version of herself, saying in the video post: “This performance for Billboard keeps talking about where we’re growing to. That’s what I’m expressing right now and I love it. I’m this version of Alicia today.”

Designer Al Jasmi is known for his blinding creations and is loved by celebrities across the world including Kendall Jenner, Myriam Fares and Haifa Wehbe.
