A prominent Emirati businesswoman has made a sizeable donation to a hospital in Palestine.

Muna Al Gurg, who is the Director of Retail at Al Gurg Group and is also a philanthropist, donated Dhs1 million to a neonatal intensive care unit in the Palestinian city of Jenin, per The National.

With funds desperately needed for equipment to help the neonatal unit to run, Al Gurg’s generous donation for the project, which is being managed by the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, will definitely be welcomed.

According to Dr Wisam Baker, director of state-run Khalil Suleiman Hospital – where the new unit will be implemented – 500 new deliveries take place every month and the need for equipment to sustain this pace is highly imperative. With the donation made by Al Gurg, the hospital will be able to purchase the vital equipment needs including ventilators, monitors, beds and more.

It’s a cause close to Al Gurg’s heart, as she made the donation in honour of her late mother Soraya Ali Kazim, who passed away 18 months ago.

Steve Sosebee, the president of the Palestine Children’s Relief, who knew Al Gurg’s late mother personally, came to her about the new paediatric ICU in Jenin, which was a cause she was eager to get behind.

“When my mother, Soraya Ali Kazim, passed away a year and a half ago, I decided that every year I would do something in her name,” Al Gurg said. “This one is for you Mama.”
