He’s dressed global pop stars and royal brides – and now Michael Cinco’s stolen headlines again with his gown for a Bollywood icon…

It’s a red carpet littered with a wealth of spangly gowns from luxury labels – but a Dubai-based brand easily stole the show at one Cannes premiere.

Indian actress, model and Bollywood legend Aishwarya Rai jetted into the French film festival this week to attend the premiere of action-adventure film Okja, and her Disney Princess-worthy gown attracted the camera’s glare.

The Jazbaa star chose Dubai-based designer Michael Cinco for the occasion, who ensured the actress shone in a billowing blue number, which wouldn’t look out of place in a Cinderella remake.

The stupendous ball gown featured intricate embroidery and ethereal textures paired against a modern architectural off-shoulder cut, while Rai kept her hair and makeup perfectly pared down.

The magical creation, crafted using reams of tulle, comes from Cinco’s Impalpable Dream of Versailles collection.

The designer, who is originally from the Philippines, shared several shots of Rai at the festival in the south of France, marvelling at the model’s “amazing styling”.

“The super gorgeous Aishwarya Rai looks like a fairy-tale princess,” the designer captioned one image.

The couturier later revealed to Gulf News that dressing the former Miss World winner was a “dream come true”.

“I sent my assistant to India for a fitting with Aishwarya and she fell in love with it and decided to wear it to the festival,” Cinco said.

The designer is no stranger to dressing a star or two, having worked with Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, and 2016 Miss Universe winner Pia Wurtzbach, to name just a few of his past clients.

Cinco is also a favourite of Middle Eastern brides-to-be, and has created gowns for everyone from social media stars to real-life princesses.

The couture designer, who set up his eponymous label back in 2003, most recently worked with Lebanese pop star Nawal Al Zoghbi, dressing the singer for her appearance at Moroccan music festival Mawazine.

Of course, with such star power comes a weighty price tag, with Cinco’s wedding dresses and gowns rumoured to cost in the tens of thousands of dirhams.

So for now, we’ll just be wearing one in our daydreams…
