The sweet tribute is in honour of the Year of Zayed.

So much thought goes into picking a baby name – there are millions of websites dedicated to the important task. But one Saudi couple kept things simple when they decided to name their newborn son after the UAE.

Baby Emarat was born at Dubai’s Latifa Women and Children Hospital on July 7. According to Gulf News, his parents have been living in the UAE for the past two years.

His mother, who wished to remain anonymous, told the newspaper she had decided on the name just a week before his due date. She wanted to commemorate the Year of Zayed, while also honouring the special relationship between Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Dubai’s royal family just got a little bit bigger…

Little Emarat shares his name with at least one other baby. In July 2017, a Kuwaiti couple named their daughter Emarat, to express their “love, patriotic fervour and respect to the UAE”, Gulf News reported.

The newborn received a lifetime supply of Waiwera Artesian Water, as part of a campaign launched by the company to coincide with the UAE’s National Day celebrations.

“The company congratulates and appreciates the parents of baby Emarat for this unique gesture and honouring the UAE in this way, which clearly reflects their love for the country,” Adyton One General Trading chairman Ahmad Al Raeesi said at the time.

Other babies born in the UAE in 2018 have been named in honour of the Year of Zayed. When a pair of Emirati twins were born at the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, their parents decided to name the boy Zayed, after the UAE’s founding father (the girl was given the beautiful name of Salama). Too cute!
