She’s our modest-dressing muse year round, but the Holy Month offers the perfect time to take a leaf out of the royal’s (well-dressed) book.
With Ramadan now upon us, those spaghetti straps and distressed denim shorts should already be relegated to the back of your wardrobe.
But, if like us, you’ve been spending the start of the Holy Month in jeans and long-sleeved tops rather than thinking outside of the box, Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan is here to help. (Not in person, although that would be a dream come true).
The royal often inspires our outfit choices, but she creates particularly fashionable footsteps to follow in when it comes to modest dressing.

So, with no further ado, let’s look at some of Queen Rania’s most Ramadan-ready looks from recent months…
A perfectly tailored midi dress will see you through both a busy work day and a sophisticated iftar alike. The button detailing on HRH’s royal-blue number adds a retro edge (you can always sew some on to a simple pencil dress you already own), while the chiffon hem and cuffs add an ethereal edge that stops the look from feeling too formal.
A maxi shirt dress in crisp white can easily take you from day to night (just make sure it’s suitably opaque). Take Queen Rania’s lead and add a belt to enhance the silhouette, while leaving the bottom unbuttoned to show a flash of underskirt is a great way to play with textures or prints – and can help counteract any transparent fabrics.

A midi skirt and pussybow blouse will see you through any boardroom meeting in style (that goes for outside Ramadan, too).
Voluminous sleeves can be found across many collections this season and, as HRH proves, add the perfect amount of interest to an otherwise pared-back cut and colour palette. (Our tip: COS have several shirts in-store at the moment that tick all our souped-up-sleeve boxes).
Wide-leg pants have been having a bit of a moment of late, and show no signs of disappearing any time soon. Pick up a few pairs in different colours (or patterns), and you’ll find they’re easy to rotate with pretty much any top already in your closet.
Keeping covered in the heat sounds like it could be a little stifling, but breezy fabrics in light pastels and whites will help you keep your cool during the Holy Month.

For weekends, an oversized pinstripe shirt and Scandi-cool denims will always see you right (especially when paired with a suede mule in a jewel tone).
We’re relying on shirt dresses to see us through this month – and Queen Rania here demonstrates how adding a splash of pattern and a cinching cut elevates an otherwise simple dress from relaxed to runway-ready.
Going bold in block brights makes a head-turning statement. We’re in love with this burnt orange hue, but a fiery red or buttercup yellow would look equally as elegant.
If wide-leg pants feel a little full-on for you, culottes are the perfect compromise (and you’ll find them in abundance at high-street stores at the moment). Copy Queen Rania, and tuck in a shirt to balance out the full leg.
