She was the first designer to present an all-hijab collection at New York Fashion Week, and now Anniesa Hasibuan has wowed us again with her latest show.
The Indonesian designer presented her Autumn/Winter 2017 collection in New York this week, which featured a dazzling array of gowns embellished with silver, bronze and rose gold.
The collection, she wrote on Instagram, was inspired by the stories of women who “had the power to change weaknesses into strengths”.
As with last year’s NYFW show, which cemented Hasibuan’s place in fashion history, the designer once again sent every one of her models down the catwalk in satin grey hijabs.

But this time, there was something else that made them unique.
Hasibuan held special casting calls to find models who were first or second-generation immigrants – a move that took on extra significance following US President Donald Trump’s controversial “Muslim ban”.
“There is beauty in diversity and differences – something we should not be afraid of,” Hasibuan told AFP through an interpreter.
“I believe being a fashion designer can bring a lot of changes – and beautiful changes, of course.”
Since her groundbreaking Spring/Summer 2017 collection earned her international acclaim, Hasibuan has opened boutiques in Indonesia, Malaysia, Turkey and Abu Dhabi.
While best known for her Islamic designs, the 30-year-old has said she doesn’t want to be seen solely as a “Muslim designer”. In New York, she said, she likes how she is simply considered a “designer”.
Her dream, she told AFP, would be to dress the Duchess of Cambridge, who she described as “like a queen”.
As if we weren’t already in love with Hasibuan, we’re now convinced she’s one to watch…
