The UAE government has announced the Eid Al Fitr holidays for public sector employees.
In a Twitter post, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources in the UAE confirmed holiday dates for Eid would start on Ramadan 29 and end on Shawwal 3.
So, what does this mean? It’s all dependent on the sighting of the Shawwal moon.
Each year, the Holy Month of Ramadan lasts for 29 or 30 days, depending upon when the new crescent moon appears. In short, the public holiday will start on Saturday, April 30 and last until either Tuesday, May 3 or Wednesday, May 4.

Just last week, the Emirates Astronomical Society predicted Eid Al Fitr was likely to fall on Monday, May 2, 2022. If this is the case, we can expect a five-day weekend, returning to work on Thursday, May 5, 2022.
What is Eid Al Fitr?
In the Islamic Calendar, Eid Al Fitr marks the official end of Ramadan and is the first day of Shawwal.
During the Holy Month Muslims around the world fast from sunrise to sunset for around 30 days, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Eid Al Fitr marks the end of fasting, and literally translates in English to the “feast of breaking the fast”.
