For all animal lovers, we have some good news. You can now take your furry companions around the world with you.

Last week, Etihad Airways made the exciting announcement that cats and dogs would now be able to travel with their owners in the cabin.

So, it’s time to book that five-star trip to the Maldives.

For passengers travelling in economy, an additional fee of $150 (Dhs550) for flights less than six hours will apply and for others above six hours, a charge of $250 (Dhs920) will apply.

An additional seat will need to be purchased for those travelling in Business Class or First Class. If you’re wanting to give your furry companion a five-star plane experience you can purchase a whole new seat for them.

For your pooch or cat to travel with you, all necessary veterinary examinations and/or treatments need to be completed; all entry and exit regulations must be followed for the countries you are flying to and from; have all the required documentation; carry a lead or suitable harness or collar; and have dry pet food in a sealed container in the cabin baggage.

In addition, for pets to travel within the cabin, the cat or dog must be at least 16 weeks old and weigh no more than 8kg (including the carrier weight).

All bookings for pets need to be made 72 hours before the flight and check-in three hours before departure.

So, if you’ve got the above sorted there’s only one question remaining: where will you be flying to?
