Nearly 10 months after the shock announcement she was quitting the fashion world and modelling, Halima Aden is making a big return.
While she’s not making a return to modelling, she is making a return to the fashion world and is doing so with a platform that perfectly aligns with her values and identity.
The former supermodel has been named as the first-ever global brand ambassador for Modanisa, the world’s largest modern fashion retailer.
The 24-year-old has signed a two-year agreement with the Istanbul-based e-commerce platform.
Halima is set to be involved in the creative side of Modanisa and will design two collections for the platform.
Sharing her excitement about working with Modanisa, Halima revealed they have been with her since day one of her journey in the world of fashion and modelling.
“I’m so excited to be working with Modanisa,” she said. “They have been an ever-present in my career: my first modest fashion catwalk, my first collection, and now my first global fashion role, all with Modanisa.

“They share my faith and values, and fully respect my choices as a Muslim woman. I’m coming home.”
Halima first was catapulted to fame when she took part in the Miss Minnesota USA pageant in 2016, being the first woman to take part wearing a hijab, as well as the first to wear a burkini which was designed by Modanisa.
After this, Halima was signed to IMG models and went on to grace a plethora of magazine covers, work with an array of luxury brands.
However, last November, Halima announced she would be stepping back from the modelling world after revealing she felt her hijab and her identity was being compromised.
Now aligning herself with a platform that embraces and understands her faith and values, Modanisa shared their excitement about working with Halima again.
“We’re thrilled to have Halima Aden back working with Modanisa,” the e-commerce platform’s Vice-President of Marketing and Brand, Samim Surel, said.”She is an icon of our times, who embodies perfectly the values of our brand: smart, stylish, and passionate, wanting to live her best life without abandoning her religious beliefs.
“Like our customers, Halima is proud of her Muslim heritage and seeks a harmonic blend between Islamic traditions and modernity. Her creative energy and positive connection with young Muslim women from all backgrounds will be a fantastic asset for us as we drive forward with our global plans.”
More details of Halima’s role with Modanisa are set to be announced soon.
