While there have been many shut downs in the UAE due to coronavirus, pharmacies and food outlets have been granted permission to stay open 24/7.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention and the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority announced the news on Wednesday in a statement.

Pharmacies, supermarkets, food outlets and cooperative societies will all be allowed to stay open 24 hours a day, but they have to follow some guidelines.

The capacity of establishments is not to exceed 30 per cent of the total capacity of the vicinity, and customers are to keep a two metre distance between one another.

These measures have been put in place in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

“All bodies concerned have to abide by the preventive and precautionary measures taken by the State’s competent bodies to ensure public safety and people’s well-being,” the two authorities explained in a statement.

At present, all UAE citizens, residents, visitors and others in the country have been directed by the government to not leave home unless it’s absolutely necessary.

All shopping malls, commercial centres, bars, beaches, and more are currently closed in additional efforts to curb the effects of coronavirus.
