Skipping the decadent lehengas this wedding season, the uber-chic Gen-Z brigade of Bollywood is returning to the humble six yards.

Think sari but with a contemporary elevation. While traditional saris hold their own old-school charm, these young women are giving the classic Indian silhouette a modern treatment.

Instead of opting for ethnic blouses and drapes that require some serious skills (and hours), actors like Janhvi Kapoor and Ananya Panday are teaming their dreamy saris with cropped blouses and strappy bralettes.

Recently, director Anurag Kashyap’s daughter celebrated her engagement to Shane Giorge and the who’s who of Bollywood showed up to celebrate. Aaliya’s childhood bestfriend and bridesmaid Khushi Kapoor made quite the appearance in a fondant pink sari teamed with a mirror work blouse by Arpita Mehta.

Her crime-solving partner in the soon-to-be released ‘The Archie’s’, Suhana Khan looked resplendent in a royal blue sari with a matching blouse by the same designer. Ditching the voluminous skirt and heavy dupattas, these about to be debutants looked elegand in a timeless sari.

Team it with pearled chokers, diamond shoulder dusters and  embellished clutches and you’re good to go. Take a cue from Bollywood’s next-gen on how to wear a sari in 2023.
