And so do a number of other big names…

Fashion is cyclical and trends can be amorphous and hard to pin down, but we’ve clocked one lately that’s very welcome – and it’s got some Middle East backing.

Lebanese designer Zuhair Murad is among those dressing women in suits for the evening. We have to say, it’s looking extremely good.

Model Winnie Harlow (yes, you do remember her from America’s Next Top Model) is the latest to step out in a suit, wearing Murad to a New York Fashion Week event on Monday night.

Here, have a look:

Sure, most of us probably won’t be wearing an embellished leather two-piece to the office on a typical Tuesday, but that’s what makes this special. It’s an elevated look that still has a cool, don’t-mess-with-me feel.

Of course, the jacket and trou’ could be worn separately for a more low-key vibe.

Murad has also dressed actress Holly Hunter of late, in a black suit with an entirely different look.

With those curved panels on the jacket and the waist detailing, no one could accuse this of not being evening-ready. Hunter looks lovely.

Looking at these images, you might be reminded of this year’s Grammys. Some of the best suits on that red carpet were worn by women.

Janelle Monae’s floral, fitted Dolce & Gabbana number was a particular highlight.

How does she always manage to look like a time traveller from the past and the future at once? Gorgeous.

Another triumph came from royal-approved Indian designer Naeem Khan on rapper Eve.

If we could look that cool even once in our lives, we’d consider it a win. Outstanding.

Last up, singer Kesha (who was just in Dubai) wore a rodeo suit originally owned by legendary American tailor Nudie Cohn. Slightly offbeat, it suits her exactly.

She wore a very similar suit in white on stage to perform, and it was similarly striking.

If this is a sign of a larger move towards suits on the red carpet, we’re ready for it.
