Fancy feeling like a First Class traveller but haven’t quite got the funds?

Well, don’t let the hefty ticket prices stop you. Emirates have just announced that passengers can now pay for access to their lounges at Dubai International Airport.

Entry-level Skywards members can pay Dhs370 for four hours inside Emirates’ business class lounge, whereas those looking for something even more fancy can fork out Dhs735 for the first class lounge.

If you’re a Skywards Silver or Gold member who can already gain complimentary access to the lounge, you can invite guests who are travelling on the same flight for an additional charge.

The offer only applies to Emirates lounges at Dubai International, and only for Emirates customers.

Now, that’s not to say as an entry-level Skywards member you’re entitled to a spot in the lounge. Access will be subject to capacity restrictions, while Silver or Gold Skywards members will be priority.

Both the Business Class Lounge and First Class Lounge feature children’s play areas to keep them occupied before the flight, as well as a number of food options ranging from snack bars to buffets. What’s not to like?

Payment for lounge entry can be made by credit or debit (no cash or miles, sorry).

Why are they doing this? Well, Emirates have only recently finished a Dhs40 million renovation of their lounge in Concourse B. So they might just be trying to show it off.

The new lounge features a Costa Coffee, a ‘health hub’ with Voss Water as well as a Moët and Chandon bubbly lounge.

And it’s free to sign up as a Skywards member on the lowest tier, so you might as well (anything to boost your chances of a free upgrade, right…?).
