The ruler has just named a Dubai landmark in honour of the occasion.
When it comes to the subject of tolerance, the UAE is ahead of the game.
Last year, the Emirates made history by unveiling the world’s first chapter of tolerance, as well as appointing a Minister of State for Tolerance.

So it was only fitting that the International Day for Tolerance, which has been celebrated on November 16 every year since 1995, was marked in a big way.
And HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum did just that, revealing ahead of the UN-launched day that one newly opened Dubai landmark was getting an official name.
“We have named Dubai’s one of most beautiful bridges Tolerance Bridge, in honour of this day,” the vice-president and prime minister of the UAE posted on Twitter.

“Bridges connect people, cultures and hearts,” the royal added.
The pedestrian bridge straddles the Dubai Canal, which opened last year (in a ceremony inaugurated by Sheikh Mohammed himself).
The royal also shared a video showing footage of the UAE’s rulers, including the late Sheikh Zayed, to show tolerance as a national “obligation”.
“Tomorrow is the International Day for Tolerance, a value deeply cherished in the UAE – our people are among the happiest and most accepting,” the ruler of Dubai continued.

“Tolerance is synonymous with the UAE. It is a fundamental value of our people and an essential element for our development and prosperity in the future.”
That’s a message we can definitely get behind.
